Colette Davies has created a special meditation experience inspired by our Biosphere, called ‘Peaceful Connections: Exploring Creativity and Well-being through Biosphere Engagement’

IT was crafted for the IJADE PEACE conference 2024, to transport listeners to the heart of our Biosphere Island, merging the tranquillity of nature with innovative sound technology.

The meditation begins with a unique audio experience - the sound of the Earth itself. This was created by sound artist David Stalling in collaboration with seismologists from the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. They captured Earth's natural vibrations and made them audible using advanced sound techniques.

The next layer introduces the Schumann resonance, a frequency of 7.83 Hz, often called Earth’s heartbeat. This frequency aligns with the brain's Alpha and Theta waves, commonly associated with states of relaxation and meditation. Exposure to this resonance is believed to promote calmness and reduce stress.

Following this, listeners are immersed in authentic Manx nature sounds recorded by local artist Jim Rawson, creating a vivid sonic landscape of the Isle of Man. The guided meditation, written by Colette Davies, captures the essence of the island’s natural beauty and its connection to peace and creativity. The narration is provided by Amy Howse, the Isle of Man's current Biosphere Artist in Residence, whose soothing voice guides listeners through this immersive experience.

Participants can choose to close their eyes or watch an accompanying video featuring Colette's photographs of the Isle of Man’s landscapes. Research suggests that even viewing nature scenes can significantly reduce stress and enhance wellbeing. This thoughtful meditation combines natural sounds and visual elements to offer a serene, restorative experience, aligning participants with the healing rhythms of nature, no matter where they are in the world.

Enjoy a moment of stillness and connect with the essence of the Isle of Man's Biosphere, finding peace in the harmony of Earth’s natural frequencies.
