Biosphere Photographer in Residence Collective Appointed

Ciara Hardisty and Adam Morgan have been recently appointed as the inaugural Biosphere Photographers in Residence for 2025. This new residency, developed in collaboration with Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) and Visit Isle of Man, builds upon the success of the Biosphere Artist in Residence programme, and is kindly supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council.

The selected creatives form a dynamic collective, with Ciara, a renowned nature and landscape photographer, and Adam, a talented videographer known for his cinematic storytelling. Together, they will document the Island’s unique natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and strong community spirit.

The residency provides a stipend alongside funding for equipment, materials, training, and event costs. Over the course of the programme, Ciara and Adam will work closely with MWT, producing photography and video content that highlights the Isle of Man’s exceptional status as the world’s only entire-nation UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Their work aims to leave a lasting artistic legacy and inspire greater engagement with the environment.

Adam stated that the duo are eager to deepen their own understanding of the Island’s wildlife and share its wonders with the community. Ciara emphasised that the residency has the potential to positively impact the island, encouraging people of all ages to appreciate and create content inspired by its extraordinary landscapes. Their vision is to establish the Isle of Man as a creative hub that attracts visitors from across the globe.

The project, titled “Nature as Your Muse: Portraiture and Wildlife Through the Celtic Wheel”, invites participants to disconnect from technology and immerse themselves in the Island’s wild spaces. Drawing on the Celtic Wheel of the Year, the duo will explore themes of renewal and transformation through a combination of portraiture, self-portraiture, and wildlife photography.

The residency will also include community engagement through seasonal workshops, offering opportunities for participants to develop skills in photography and storytelling. A final gallery exhibition will showcase the collective’s work alongside selected participant contributions. Additionally, Ciara and Adam will refine their wildlife photography skills under expert guidance, deepening their understanding of local biodiversity.

The residency will conclude with a short film documenting their journey, reinforcing the lasting impact of the project on the Isle of Man’s cultural and environmental landscape.

UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man looks forward to witnessing the creative outcomes of this exciting residency, which is a welcome addition to the now well established Biosphere Artist in Residence.
