Business Energy Saving Scheme is Back

The Business Energy Saving Scheme has relaunched with improvements and a new name: the Business Emissions Saving Scheme (BESS).

The Business Energy Saving Scheme has relaunched with improvements and a new name: the Business Emissions Saving Scheme (BESS).

This initiative helps businesses become more energy-efficient, cut carbon emissions, and lower energy costs.

The updated BESS now offers increased financial assistance, including:

  • Up to £50,000 for all businesses
  • Up to £75,000 for businesses with 10-25 employees
  • Up to £100,000 for businesses with more than 25 employees
  • The scheme also covers 75% of energy audit costs, helping businesses identify ways to reduce emissions. Additionally, a broader range of projects are eligible for support, including energy efficiency measures, and initiatives that encourage commuting by active travel, such as bike storage.

BESS aligns with the Government’s goal of reaching Net Zero by 2050 and supports the Island's environmental goals as outlined in Our Island Plan.

Minister for Enterprise, Tim Johnston MHK commented: "This scheme has helped many businesses improve energy efficiency over the years. By relaunching with these new enhancements, we aim to further support businesses in reducing their carbon footprint and energy costs."

Starting October 1st, businesses must complete an energy audit before applying, with 75% of audit costs covered by the scheme. The maximum loan has increased to £100,000, depending on business size, with new eligible projects, such as charging points and active travel measures.
