The Peatland Project Team are based at DEFA, and the Manx Peatland Partnership comprises of the team and various stakeholder organisations, of which information can be found on the new website.
The website also offers a wealth of information about peatlands’ environmental significance and the ongoing efforts within our Biosphere to protect them. Peatlands are one of the island’s most important ecosystems, playing an important role in biodiversity, water management, and carbon sequestration.
Peatlands cover 11% of the Isle of Man, yet many of these areas are under threat due to issues such as drainage, erosion, and overuse. Restoring and preserving these habitats is crucial for tackling climate change and safeguarding wildlife, helping to create a sustainable future for all.
The website also highlights the fascinating heritage of peat landscapes, showcasing their deep-rooted importance to Manx culture and identity.
Whether you're a landowner, looking to volunteer, or simply curious, the site offers guidance on how you can get involved. Exciting opportunities include volunteering for restoration projects, learning about sustainable land management practices, and supporting peatland-friendly farming.
