A new UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man trophy will be awarded to a photographer who submits the best wildlife or habitat photo to a forthcoming agricultural show.
The hand-made wooden and glass trophy will be awarded for the first time at the Southern and District Agricultural Show, being held at Orrisdale Farm, Ballasalla, on 29th and 30th July 2023.
The trophy will go to the best entry within classes 868 (Photograph Farm Animals, Wildlife or Habitat) and 873 (Under 16s Photograph Your Pet, an Animal on the Farm, Wildlife or Habitat).
Photos must be on photography paper and printed 10 x 8
Entrants can hand in their photos between 4pm and 8pm on Friday 28th July, the final day of setting up for the show, or on the first morning of the show up to 9.30am.
Entries must be accompanied by an entry form, downloadable from the Southern Show website under ‘Entries’.
Entries to this and other photography categories will be mounted upon entry and exhibited, thanks to Manx Photography Training.
Judging will take place on Saturday 29th July.
As well as the handsome trophy, the person judged to have taken the best wildlife or habitat photo will receive a day’s photography training from Manx Photography Training.
The trophy is repurposed, having been awarded to the entire Manx farming community as the Environment winner in the UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man Awards 2022 for the adoption and implementation of the Isle of Man Government’s Agri-Environment Scheme, delivered in Partnership with Manx Wildlife Trust.
It will be awarded annually at the Southern Show in this new competition section.
