Sustainable Mann 2024 Workshops for Businesses

UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man's flagship sustainability training is back, offering practical guides and advice for businesses on how to be part of a brighter future for people and planet.

UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man's flagship sustainability training is back, offering practical guides and advice for businesses on the Isle of Man on how to be part of a brighter future for people and planet.

This year, the workshops are being delivered by Earthscope Isle of Man, a social enterprise formed to promote nature-first transformative thinking for businesses and communities.

The workshops, starting 9:00-12:00 on Monday 2 September and running until Monday 14 October, bring together expert insights and provide the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and explore how to take the lead in a green (and blue!) economy.

Businesses can attend as few or as many of the seven workshops on offer as they feel suit their needs. Those who attend at least six out of the seven workshops will be accredited by Biosphere Isle of Man with the Sustainable Mann certification, joining a growing cohort of businesses in putting sustainable development at the heart of their purpose.

The sessions cost just £5 each and cover:

  •  Innovation: How to lead in a green economy (Jeroen Watts, Chief Innovation Officer at Exo Technologies and Rachel Smith, Biosphere IOM Youth Representative)
  •  Nature: How business can help nature thrive (Richard Selman, Ecosystem Policy Manager, DEFA)
  •  Green Marketing: How to kick-start your sustainability comms (Helena Cicmil, Senior Communications Consultant for the environmental, non-profit and tech-for-good sectors
  •  Recycling: Busting myths and misconceptions (Clara Isaac, Director of Recycle Collect)
  •  Circular Economy: Things don't have to cost the earth (Steve Clarke, Director at Re-universe)
  •  Climate Change and Energy (Steve Forden, Head of Energy Policy, DEFA)
  •  Legal and Fiduciary: Regulation, risk and resilience (Andrew Langan-Newton, Consultant Advocate for Keystone Law)

Sustainable Mann workshops overview

Clare Barber MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture, said of the workshops: ‘Encouraging sustainable development is one of the main functions of UNESCO Biospheres, and adopting more sustainable practices is essential for the planet.

‘These exciting workshops cover a range of topics and I encourage Manx businesses of all shapes and sizes to get involved. Our speakers will share a wealth of knowledge that start-ups and smaller businesses, without in-house knowledge, may find particularly useful.’
