Rachel Smith, Biosphere Isle of Man Youth Representative, gives us an update on the newly formed Youth Network.
The Biosphere Isle of Man Youth Network has made remarkable progress over the past year, creating a vibrant community of young people dedicated to sustainability. Following our successful launch event on 8th October 2024, which featured fun icebreaker activities and quizzes, we have seen increased enthusiasm among members, encouraging more active participation in our online spaces.
As we move forward, our focus is on encouraging leadership and ownership within the network. We will be promoting voluntary roles such as communications coordinator and event organiser, providing opportunities for members to develop their skills and take on responsibilities. Our aim is to cultivate individual leadership while strengthening connections within the group.
In the coming months, we plan to host regular social events and activities to deepen relationships and welcome new members. Additionally, we will continue to align our initiatives with the values of Biosphere Isle of Man, empowering people aged 18-35 to drive meaningful change in our community.
As we look ahead, we are excited to inspire and connect with other Biosphere Reserves, sharing ideas and experiences. Together, we can make a lasting impact on sustainability for future generations.
