The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG) proudly hosted its 2024 awards ceremony, recognising the outstanding contributions of Isle of Man farmers to sustainable farming and wildlife conservation. Sponsored by Van Mossel Jacksons IOM, the ceremony took place at the Talk of the Town at Nobles Park.
As proud UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man Partners, FWAG continues to promote sustainable practices, helping to ensure a thriving future for local farmers while protecting the Island’s rich biodiversity. The event was made possible thanks to the generous support of companies like NFU Mutual, who sponsored the awards, and other valued partners.
Jacqui Keenan from Biosphere Isle of Man spoke at the ceremony, reinforcing the critical role farming plays in the history and future of the Isle of Man’s Biosphere status. She highlighted how sustainable farming practices are essential in their contributions in maintaining the biodiversity and heritage of our unique biosphere nation, praising the continued efforts and enthusiasm of Paul and Hillary Fletcher from FWAG.

The additional DEFA Award of Merit for Conservation was awarded to Julian Teare, recognising his commitment to sustainable environmental practices. The Special Award for Upland Habitat Management went to Faradale Ltd, highlighting their exceptional efforts in preserving upland habitats.
The highlight was the presentation of the Bronze Chough Award, which was presented to Ballacosnahan Farm (Jenny Shepherd & Rawdon Hayne), for their outstanding integration of wildlife conservation into everyday farming practices.
His Excellency Sir John Lorimer and Lady Lorimer presented the awards, with expert judges Chris Kneale and team selecting the winners.
FWAG thanked all participants for their dedication to their practise, with special appreciation for the ongoing support from DEFA, the 572, Manx NFU, Manx Grassland Society, and the Manx Wildlife Trust.
